Why now??

Why now do the people in Cincinnati try to stand up for what is "right"? Why now do the people of Cincinnati try to scope out the "wrong" because they think it will make us a better place? Maybe they are right. But then again maybe not. I believe that violence will never be removed off every street and every neighborhood. I had recently been thinking about election campaigns and I wondered why in every campaign the candidates say, " I'm going to make things better". I personally think thats what sucks all the voters into believing that "line. I mean isn't that the American Dream? That one day America will be perfect with not one single flaw. Well I dont think we're going to see that before judgement day. America has many flaws, but flaws aren't bad. I think it's time for America to wake up and realize that we can't be perfect, but we can all be filled with the illusion that everything is just fine and dandy which is a good thought until we grow old and think what did we do with our lives? America has had many regrets in yhr past and it seems now when we have just passed through many mayhems that NOW we decide to "fix" our country...well I have one response: America going straight down because now we think we're the best just because we're rich well the poorest countries may have some of the happiest people!

Stopping The Violence in the 513

Recently a lot of efforts are being tried to help minimize the violence in Cincinnati. The first course of "major" action that was taking was a formal Stop the Violence Meeting at the Freedom Center. Apparently it was an African American event. No white City Council member or white official was cited. Now of course this whole stopping the violence has something to do with race, doesn't every issue we have as a whole in Cincinnati? In over the Rhine there has been round the clock police watch going on. But I think that is not helping at all, there has been no report of improvement or non improvement. I personally feel if we are putting our police officers in the"midst of the violence" we should be able to know what is going on at all times. Now Cincinnati officials are putting more police watch in Walnut Hills. So their plan must be to take it one neighborhood at a time. Now seriously do the Officials honestly think that's going to work. Now they don't plan to put any of these police watches in the Surburbs of Cincinnati or the "acceptable" neighborhoods. A big percentage neighborhoods that are being "watched over" are African Amercian communities. Maybe it's just me but isn't that some form of racism? Is there no say in the things going on in his city. Does he not care what's going on in his communties? Or is there something more important than the Citzens of Cincinnati? Of course we can't put all the blame on him but he should have more control and more compassion for the people of Cincinnati.

Walking in someone else's shoes....

Who are we? Who are people to judge others and what they do? Who are we to be stereotypical of others races, religions, and cultural backgrounds? The reason I am asking these questions is because on Christmas Eve, a 19 year old African American female was shot in the head at the Legacy in Roselawn. On the news, the stroy was blown up into so many different stories that were far from the truth. My brother was at the Legacy on Christmas Eve, and he told a completely different story. The media reported that there was alcohol being served at that party, but the owners of Legacy said that was a lie, it was a teen party, so if you were not in High School, you were not being let in. They were doing everything to make sure that the party was safe for the people who actually made it in the party. The Police's general description of the shooter was an teen African American male. First, that is very stereotypical, just because a good portion of the students who attended that party were teens and African Americans does not mean the girl was actually shot by a Teen African American male because she was not in high school, she was probabaly all ready graduated and she wasn't actually shot inside of the Legacy, some news say she was shot down the street and Legacy's name was just thrown in. This upset me because we live in a stereotypical city, when I say that I don't mean that every single person in this city is a stereotype but as a whole we judge people on their race, religion, or ethnical background, especially in crimes. So why do we do this......well it just makes our goverment officials job easier, they can just pin a crime on someone and their job is over. But you voting citzens of Cincinnati can't be mad.....you voted for them.

Untitled

These last couple weeks I have been doing alot of reflection on myself and my life. This is supposed to help me find my own identity, to be myself in each and every sitiuation. But as you get older you begin to change, not because there is something wrong with you but because you are growing into a more mature and responsible person. So, one day I thought to myself, can adults do that?? Can adults slow down and take serious time to reflect on their actions and the way they have presented themselves over their life, as children and as adults. So, I began thinking about it some more and I wondered if Reflection was all we needed. When people reflect seriously it is supposed to help them find themselves and be who they are not who everyone wants them to be. So I got to thinking about goverment and how if all the goverment officials, our Mayor, Mark Mallory, even the President(of the United States) did some reflections would this country, state, or even city be better off. Would we have a more efficient goverment or efficient lives?? Well it never hurts to try......

Why teens do drugs.....

Recently, I was thinking about what pressures teens into doing drugs or if anything pressures them at all. At first I thought about if they maybe saw their parents or family members doing drugs and that's why they're doing it or maybe they saw it in a movie...like movies that have alot to say about drugdealing and gangs. After I came with those idea ....the biggest thing I thought was " peer pressure". Someone either at your school or in your neighborhood. So, I thought and decided that this was the best reason that teens did drugs. So after that I wondered if "peer pressure" fit in with " popularity", I was so confused, I thought to myself, "why would a kid even do that to thereself?" and then I got my answer. It was popularity... it was the fact that they wanted to "fit in" and do what everyone else was doing... but truthfully everyone else was not doing it. But when this idea popped in my head I was reading " 7 Habits Of A Highly Effective Teen" By: Sean Covey and the author was talking about "peer pressure" and the "crossroads of life". So can anyone come up with a better idea why teens do drugs?!?!?!

The Cincinnati Branch NAACP 50TH Annual Freedom Fund Dinner

Friday, October 14, 2005, is the Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner in Cincinnati. They said on the invitation, "After 50 years.... STILL CELEBRATING OUR VICTORIES". When I heard this I thought to myself, what victories? Because over the last 12 years of my life I haven't heard of these such victories they speak of. Really things seem to get worse, so what accomplishments have they acheived, because if there is still massive amounts of racism and discrimination in Cincinnati... somebody is not doing their job. Also , while they are wining and dining, another person in Cincinnati (particuarly african-americans and other ethnicites) is being cast out for the race or ethnical background. But as long as the wonderful chair members on the NAACP of Cincinnati are having a great dinner and no one is casting them out, everything is peachy. So what I wonder is , why do the voting citzens of Cincinnati continue to vote the non- caring , selfish and, procrastinators, to run Cincinnati?

Hurricane Katrina

As you may know hurricane Katrina has just passed through Alabama, Louisiana. I was very disturbed by all the images that have been shown and thinking that wow they are really going through that actual stuff. But what makes me really upset is the fact that people in other places of the and country are comparing themselves to those who r suffering from that hurricane and other things and when I hea others comparing like "oh i would have done this and oh, I would have done that". That makes me upset because they cant compare themselves to those people you dont know what its like but they think they can guess thats why i'm not going to sit here and say "well i would have done this or I would have done that"but I will say everyone needs some help sumtime so if you have a helping hand to give, remember it's not what you would do if you were them but it's the fact that they are in trouble and they need your help,NOW...
